We arrived in Chiloquin, OR last evening after two very long days of travel. Our routing was up through Denver, then west on I-70. We had lunch in Vail and then got back on the road, anxious to see the scenic views for which I-70 is known, particularly Glenwood Canyon...
It was beautiful until...
The Hanging Lakes Tunnel was undergoing maintenance and rock slide that required closure intervals. Basically, Colorado DOT would stop traffic for 20-30 minute intervals so that heavy equipment could move around freely...in 93 degree temps.
There were several bikers around us that were really sweating it out. One old guy apparently had a support vehicle behind him, so he would dismount and sit in the back seat and drink his water...or whatever. He was slow to move and caused further delay while he got back to his bike. Fortunately, he was in the other lane!
After +12 hours of driving, we spent the night in Sandy, UT which is just south of Salt Lake City.
